Generally they have a furnace where the air is heated by natural gas which is pushed through duct-work, then through vents to heat a building. The natural gas is fed to the building from a main gas line a few feet beneath the earth. It is likely that the gas supply line for your building is buried under and parallel to a street.

Heat Pump/Dual Fuel refers to an electric heat pump and a fossil fuel furnace, normally gas or oil, all in one. When temperatures are above freezing. approximately 35 degress, a heat pump may be the most efficient way to heat your home because of the lower cost of electric power.
